ABOUT THIS LIST
You won’t have time to do everything here, so spread your message around. Use a combination of email, DMs, and social posts.
I suggest the combination and frequency you decide on is aligned with how the event fits into your other activities.
For example, don’t spend all of your marketing capital on a group show where you’re 1 of 30 or more artists. Of course you want to promote it and should promote it, but you want to bank the goodwill and go all out for your solo exhibitions.
30-60 Days Out
- [ ] Create a special page on your website with all of the details of your show. Send traffic to that page address. See more about how to do that on this post.
- [ ] Post images, video, and links that are related to your subject matter to Facebook—tagging people, businesses and organizations as appropriate.
- [ ] Make a Pinterest board of the travel, books, music and other inspirations surrounding the work you’ll be showing.
- [ ] Start another Pinterest board with all of the art that will be in the show.
- [ ] Hire or assign someone to be the photographer at the opening.
20-40 Days Out
- [ ] Create an event on Facebook, linking to the special page on your website. Reach out privately to your strongest supporters and ask them to comment on your event page. This will make the page look more lively.
- [ ] Leave notes of enthusiastic anticipation about your upcoming show on the Facebook pages of the venue.
- [ ] Ask people on social channels to save the date for your opening.
- [ ] Send a “save the date" email to your list and post the same announcement to social channels.
- [ ] Begin a Pinterest board just for your visitors that shares information about restaurants, bars and coffee shops in the neighborhood.
